Hendricks Park Volunteer Coordinator, Christina Bentrup, (chartreuse jacket) stands in the center of her helpers to give instructions for the afternoon. From October to June, Friends of Forest volunteers can come every Saturday to pull invasive species.
Bentrup has been the Hendricks Volunteer Coordinator for over four years. She started the job the week after she moved to Oregon. Her last day is May 13th. She is planning to teach agriculture at Oregon State University next fall.
Bentrup uses a Hori Hori gardening knife to cut out the invasive plant, nipplewort, from spreading.
Many creatures, including the common earthworm, inhabit Hendricks Park in Eugene, Oregon.
Bentrup pulls Herb Robert, aka the Stinky Bob plant, on a hillside.
